In fact, when choosing a gearbox, we need to pay special attention to the selection and calculation of the following parameters. A. Calculate the torque of the gearbox output shaft. B. Calculate the maximum speed of the transmission mechanism. C. Selection of the installation method for the transmission mechanism; D. Selection of gearbox transmission accuracy; F. Configuration of the gearbox interface; Next, we will introduce in detail the selection criteria and methods of the gearbox from the above aspects.
1. Calculation of Gearbox Output Shaft Torque
The output torque of the gearbox is the torque required by the transmission mechanism. The purpose of selecting the gearbox is to obtain the rated torque of the motor (i.e. minimize costs) + gearbox (increase torque) = greater torque output.
In fact, the application of the gearbox in mechanical structures has many advantages, such as increasing torque, reducing inertia, reducing the impact of the motor on the servo motor, and automatically locking the motor, and so on.
Of course, its core value is to increase torque, so when confirming the required torque of the driving mechanism, we will compare the torque of the selected servo motor. The ratio of these two torques is the reduction ratio of the selected gearbox. Of course, we generally allow a slight increase in the transmission ratio for the final torque of the mechanism to have some redundancy. Oh dear.
Therefore, in this process, the required final torque and the rated torque of the servo motor are very important parameters. Only by knowing these two parameters can we determine the reduction ratio of the selected gearbox.
2. Calculating the Maximum Speed of the Motor
For the maximum speed of the transmission mechanism, mechanical design engineers must confirm it. Because it is related to the selection of the reduction ratio, when we choose the reduction ratio, it may not necessarily increase infinitely. Because the larger the reduction ratio, the greater the torque, but the lower the output speed, which affects the operating speed of the entire motor.
Therefore, a balance between torque and speed is needed. It is reasonable to increase the reduction ratio to increase the transmission torque as much as possible while meeting the transmission speed of the mechanical mechanism.
Of course, the transmission speed of the transmission mechanism is not entirely determined by the gearbox. The speed of the servo motor, the pitch of the drive screw, and the size of the gears are decisive factors, so we need to consider comprehensively in the structural design, but the size of the reduction ratio is also a decisive factor that needs our attention.
3. Selection of the Installation Method for the Transmission Mechanism
In addition to the aforementioned parameter selection, when choosing the gearbox, we should also select the type and installation method of the gearbox, such as planetary gearbox, worm gearbox, coaxial direct connection, or 90° vertical installation.
In particular, the selection of the worm gearbox has specific application scenarios. For example, the entire action mechanism needs to be locked. We always have such design requirements. For example, the transmission device is vertically installed. In order to prevent the mechanism from falling off after a power failure, a worm gearbox is usually selected.
Therefore, the selection of the installation method is also important, not arbitrary.
4. Choosing the Transmission Accuracy of the Gearbox
The transmission accuracy of the gearbox depends entirely on the precision requirements of the transmission mechanism you design. Of course, it's all about matching the corresponding parameters based on the function, but this translates to actual cost. The higher the accuracy, the higher the cost, which is often hard to accept. Especially with some good brands, they are unattainable.
5. Gearbox Interface Configuration
In the process of selecting the gearbox, it is necessary to define two gearbox interfaces through seating, and at the same time, the structural form and external dimensions of the gearbox should not only meet the requirements of the equipment, but also be able to connect with the selected servo motor.
Servo motor interface. The gearbox manufacturer will customize the gearbox interface based on the servo motor interface chosen by the customer. Therefore, when communicating with the gearbox supplier, you need to provide them with the servo motor interface.
